About Dr. Bryan Foltice

Bryan Foltice has spent his career studying a deceptively simple question: "Why do smart people make financial decisions they know they probably shouldn’t make?"

As a Professor of Finance at Butler University, behavioral finance researcher, and founder of Money Strong, Bryan has spent years exploring the gap between what people "know" about money and what they actually "do". His work combines behavioral science with practical financial education to help people better understand their decisions—and make better ones.

But Bryan doesn’t believe financial education should feel like a finance lecture.

His presentations use stories, humor, real-world examples, and audience interaction to make complex ideas approachable and memorable. Whether speaking to employees, college students, financial professionals, or conference audiences, Bryan’s goal is the same: "help people recognize their own behavior, understand what drives it, and walk away with something they can actually use."

Bryan is an Associate Professor of Finance at Butler University, a published researcher, host of the Bryan Foltice Behavioral Finance podcast, and a former professional basketball player.

“It's called the Foltice Lifetime Guarantee. If you’ve had me in class, you’ve got me as a resource for life.”

Signature Speaking Topics

1. Money Strong: From Knowing to Doing

Most people already know the basics of good financial behavior: spend less than you earn, save consistently, invest for the future, and avoid unnecessary debt. So why is doing it so difficult?

Bryan explores the gap between financial knowledge and financial behavior and shows how small changes in our environment, habits, and decision-making can make doing the right thing with money easier.

Ideal for: Employee financial wellness programs, universities, conferences, and general audiences.

2. Why Smart People Make Dumb Decisions With Their Money

Being intelligent, educated, or financially successful doesn't make us immune to bad financial decisions.

Using behavioral finance research, real-world examples, and humor, Bryan explores the biases and mental shortcuts that cause otherwise smart people to overspend, chase investments, follow the crowd, hold onto bad decisions, and confidently make choices that aren't nearly as rational as we think.

Ideal for: Corporate audiences, conferences, universities, and financial professionals.

3. Behavioral Finance in the Wild

Behavioral finance is fascinating in a textbook. It's even more interesting when you start noticing it everywhere.

Bryan takes audiences into the real world of financial decision-making, where overconfidence, loss aversion, anchoring, herd behavior, mental accounting, and other biases influence everything from investing and retirement decisions to spending and everyday choices.

The goal isn't simply to identify our biases. It's to understand what we can actually do about them.

Ideal for: Financial advisors and CFP® professionals, financial services conferences, professional associations, and corporate audiences.
